My worst work experience

Right, I knew from the age of 13 that I wanted to study Law at University, so naturally when Work Experience came around I wanted a place at either the local court, a Solicitors or with a Barrister.

So where did they place me...in the Local Council's Planning and Conservation dept...of course, which seemed the obvious choice...or not. Now that may sound like quite a posh work place name, but really it was the 'Emperor's New Clothes', completely dressing up nothing in a grand name. It was basically putting gateposts, turnstiles and fences in the middle of the most isolated countryside miles and miles away from anywhere. As well as weeding flower-beds and moving large gardening equipment about...cool, or not.

It was the middle of June, a very hot month...I mean it was boiling. Cool you may think, out in the sun, not in a stuffy office, getting a tan…yeah there was that, I didn't have to wear a suit and it was a benefit that it was so hot that we only worked 4 hour days, 10:00 to 2:00...absolute bliss.

However, I suffer from hay fever..I mean I suffer, particularly in June when it's very hot, therefore it was ideal conditions for me to work, sarcasm overload. Also this was a huge mistake on the people who organised the work (thanks Misses *******), I put on my form I had this bad allergy, but they obviously fragrantly ignored that and put me at the mercy of the countryside.

In the end I hardly worked at all because of the hot conditions, in a two week period I worked 8 days...really good experience...I don't think. I did meet some interesting people, including a volunteer guy who had had a big car accident and thought he was Elvis for a while, but that's another story. I imagine work experience can be valuable as long as it's organised properly and you get a job you want. By the way I did do the Law degree but I don't want to be a Lawyer, I wonder why?
